Toed Box Turtle

The toed box turtle is a stocky turtle with a flat, downturned shell that’s resistant to predators. They have a powerful neck, strong legs, and webbed feet that help them swim. Their name comes from the front pair of toes which are longer than their hind toes. Toed Box Turtles live in ponds, slow moving rivers and swamps. While they prefer shallow water their water can range in depth depending on the region they live in but it will never be deeper than 4 feet. This turtle, also known as the three-toed box turtle, is a North American species of freshwater turtle of the family Emydidae. It is found in central and eastern Canada and the northern United States from New England northward.
