Sumatran Water Monitors

The Asian water monitor (Varanus salvator) is also known as the Sumatran water monitor. In the wild, this water monitor can be found in the mangrove swamps of Southeast Asian countries like Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and India.The Sumatran water monitor (Varanus salvator) is a large species of lizard, capable of attaining lengths of up to 2 m (6.5 ft). It is an extremely fast and powerful swimmer and readily takes to water when pursued. It is found in mangrove forests, rivers, lakes and estuaries with woody shores. The species can be identified by its tall spiny scales, large size and prominent markings on its body and tail.
